Trump says US does not believe Russian plague is a bioweapon
President Donald Trump stated Wednesday that the U.S. does not believe suspected Russian plague cases constitute a bioweapon. Trump said he has a phone call scheduled with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the matter, while the CDC continues monitoring reports of pneumonic plague.
Left-leaning outlets emphasize Trump's cautious language ('We hope not') and note the CDC is actively monitoring the situation, suggesting the administration should take potential bioweapon threats seriously.
Center outlets present Trump's direct statement that he does not think the cases are a bioweapon, reporting his remarks factually without added interpretation.
Right-leaning outlets frame Trump as casting doubt on bioweapon claims while noting the CDC's monitoring role, characterizing his position as measured skepticism.
