Bloomberg donates $80 million to Democratic candidates ahead of midterms
Billionaire Michael Bloomberg announced an $80 million donation to support Democratic candidates in the 2024 midterm elections, focusing on House races. The contribution comes as major political donors across the spectrum increase spending in the election cycle.
Bloomberg's donation represents significant Democratic fundraising efforts to counter Republican spending, with outlets noting his reliable support for Democratic candidates and emphasizing the contrast with Republican donor activity like Elon Musk's contributions.
Bloomberg's $80 million contribution is framed as a substantial late-cycle investment in a midterm dominated by big-spending donors across the political spectrum, highlighting the role of billionaire funding in American elections.
